Looking to the future

In John 17 Jesus prays for us. He actually prays for us specifically. He prays for everyone who will come to believe in him through the message of his disciples. This amazing fact was overlooked for far too long in my life until I read these prayers with this question in mind: what does Jesus actually hope for our future? What I see is amazing.

He prayed for our protection. He prayed that we find joy. He wanted us to experience life in the full. He wanted only those things that matter to have a hold of us. He wanted us to experience the complete freedom in this life that he offers and in that have true joy. Most of all he prayed over and over that we experience unity. He wanted the love, and service that we show to each other to be the most important tool we have to spread his message. It is that kind of unity that I want to experience here and now in this life.

That's why this article carries a request for you.

Every great, positive movement throughout Christian history was started with a group of people coming before God in prayer. I don't know if that's what God has planned for The Network Church, but I sure want to get started on the right foot.

For the next seven weeks we will be spending every Tuesday evening in prayer together, whether we are together or apart, to come before God. We will be praying for the church, and the building of unity in the church. Not just The Network Church but God's church in this city and around the world. That's why we're putting this out to everyone who wants to join us for the next seven weeks in this way. Whether you're on your own or not, or whether you can pray a little or a lot, whether you're new to prayer or old, we welcome everyone to come before God with us for this purpose. To see Christ's hope for his church come alive in us now.

Please feel free to post a comment to let us know you're in, or to update everyone on what your prayers have been like.

Christ's true church crosses all boundaries.

  1. Ready for the second week! I hope that you can give just a short amount of time wherever you are, and whatever you're doing for us.

  2. I'm looking forward to praying tonight! Most likely it'll be me, Devon, and God, but as always, anyone is allowed to pop in at any time tonight so that we can pray together. Where two or three are gathered...

  3. So I just happened to be up doing some work and realized that just five minutes ago our last night of prayer is done. I feel like our church is on a better track now then we were seven weeks ago. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who did this with us. This will be just one piece that we're celebrating on Thursday night. Have a great night everyone!
